Students of Karantini secondary school from Kitutu Masaba constituency have a reason to smile after area MCA unveiled a science laboratory worth Sh4million.

The laboratory, with physics, biology and chemistry department, is the first of its own since students from the school have been previously doing their practicals in the neighboring Nyakongo high school.

Gesima MCA Ken Atuti on Wednesday challenged students and teachers of science subjects to take the disciplines seriously in a bid to rectify dismal performances for years in national exams.

“You all understand how we have worked hard to build the structure and that is why I want to invite all teachers and students to work extremely serious and ensure that the institution performs well in science subjects at the national level,” he said.

Mr Atuti promised to pay school fee for any student who will manage a grade A in internal examinations for two subsequent terms.

“I would like to promise that any student who will manage an A in the internal exams will get an opportunity to get his or her school fee for two weeks waived. I will also give Sh5,000 to any A scored at national exams by the respective teachers in those subjects,” he said.

Head of sciences, Dominic Mokong’u, praised the MCA and promised to rally his science teachers towards achieving high in national exams.

“We have been at least scoring a C without exposing our children to practicals. With now laboratory in place, all will be fine,” he said.
