A 13-year-old schoolgirl on Friday died after she was knocked down by a speeding lorry at Kona Mbaya along Kisii-Migori highway while going to school.
Mr Clifford Makori who witnessed the accident said the girl who was a student at St Jacobs Academy in Bonchari Sub County lost her life while crossing the busy highway from the market centre.
He said a good Samaritans rushed her to the nearby Iyabe Hospital where she succumbed while undergoing treatment.
Confirming the incident, the area deputy Police Commander Mr Titus Chege said the driver of the lorry was arrested and will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
Chege said the body was taken to Nyangenga Hospital Mortuary as further investigations continue.
The vehicle was towed to Gesonso Police Station pending inspection while the driver is still detained.
The police boss appealed to motorists to avoid speeding while approaching densely populated areas and corners.
