Most public schools in Bonchari Sub County opened on Monday, with teachers and students reporting to their various stations, according to area Education Officer Eric Nyangwara.

During an interview in his office on Monday, he said that most teachers had reported to school in virtually all stations visited by officials from his office.

He added that several day secondary schools in the area had also opened, with students seen steadily trooping back to boarding schools.

However, a spot check done by this writer revealed that though a good percentage of public primary and secondary schools had reopened; there was minimal activity in terms of teaching and learning.

“As you can see, most teachers are on duty but proper learning is yet to kick off properly,” said Mr Wison Moseti, headteacher Suneka Primary school.

Moseti expressed fears of a possible boycott by teachers beginning Tuesday morning, in the event that the salary increment impasse between Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) was not unlocked.

This comes barely a day after TSC warned teachers against absconding duties, while their unions calls them not to report to school if the government fails to pay them as directed by the courts.
