Security has been beefed up in Nakuru and Naivasha towns following hate leaflets that have been circulating since yesterday night, Nakuru County commissioner Mohammed Birik has said.
In an exclusive interview with our reporter, Birik warned those circulating the leaflets of dire consequences once caught.
“Extra security personnel among them GSU officers have been deployed to arrest any security threat in the county,” said Birik.
He said that the government is not taking chances and will ensure total security round the clock.
While calling on members of the public to ignore the leaflets, Birik said that Nakuru has been a volatile county since 1992 and a few elements will not be allowed to cause havoc among peace-loving Kenyans.
The commissioner further said that during this period no police officer in the county will go on leave unless on health grounds.
He said that investigations are at an advanced stage to arrest those behind the leaflets. The leaflets warning a particular community to vacate Rift Valley in a week’s time were found at Free Area, Kaptembwa, Nakuru town centre and Naivasha town.
He said that international schools in Nakuru among them St Andrews School Turi and Greensteds have been provided with armed security officers to avert any danger.
