Nakuru Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have been challenged to actively take up their oversight role and keep the county government on toes to ensure effective service delivery.

Speaking at Molo town after handing over 100 driving licences to youth groups, Nakuru Senator James Mungai said there is need for MCAs to spearhead laws and policies that will promote development.

Mungai observed that MCAs have not performed their oversight role to the maximum, a situation that has slowed down development.

“I want to appeal to MCAs in Nakuru and across the country to take their oversight roles seriously. The senate will continue to spearhead laws that favour the success of devolution,” he said.

He said devolution must work since its main aim was to ensure people at the grassroots get quality and efficient services.

At the same time, Mungai lauded the move by Nakuru East MP David Gikaria, his West counterpart Samuel Arama and Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to work together.

He said there is need for understanding and tolerance among leaders to ensure progress in development.
