Two leaders have urged the government to resolve the teachers' pay rise issue which has paralysed learning in public schools.
Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir urged the government and the teachers to dialogue and end the ongoing teachers’ strike.
Mr Omar said the teachers should agree to dialogue with the government over the 50-60 per cent pay increase awarded by the Industrial Court for learning to resume in public schools.
The senator said: “The strike by teachers has affected the education sector and its our children who are suffering. The government should intervene and find a solution for learning to resume.”
Senator Omar was speaking on Thursday at Mombasa County Stadium after the Eid-ul-Adha prayers.
MP Nassir also urged the government and the teachers to dialogue to find a solution saying the pay increase will affect Kenyans.
Mr Nassir said the poor in the country will suffer when the government will increase tax so as to get money to pay the teachers.
MP Nassir said: “The teachers’ pay rise will lead to higher taxation and this will be a burden to the poor. We need to pray for the country and the problem it faces to end.”
