Uasin Gishu Senator Isaac Melly was on Thursday summoned by a Nakuru court to answer to charges related to riots at the University of Eldoret.

Melly was to be charged alongside Wesly Kibet who is a students association secretary general and Jonathan Bii, but he was absent from court.

State Prosecutor Hillary Songoyo told the court that he has been made to understand that Melly is out of the country and requested for summons to be issued to him once he jets in.

Songoyo also asked that the plea be deferred until Melly personally appears in court.

The three, jointly with others not before court, are accused of notoriously assembling together at the university and unlawfully destroying the university administration block doors and windows valued at Sh50,000 on February 12, at University of Eldoret in Eldoret East Sub County.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Maroro Nyakundi, Kibet and Bii were released on cash bail of Sh10,000 each.

The court issued summons to the Senator and plea taking deferred to November 12.
