Residents of Sensi in Marani Sub-County have urged the national government to consider improving security following a series of insecurity incidents in which at least three people have died in less than a month.

Speaking on Monday during a burial ceremony of a victim of the unprecedented attacks, they condemned area police for failing to respond in time despite timely alerts by the residents.

The residents claim an organised gang comprising mainly of youths has been coordinating attacks in the area with the middle class being the main target.

“We are really tired of these criminal activities that have even led to the death of a number of us. The police are doing nothing to arrest the perpetrators and this is a sad thing. We deserve improved security since moist of us pay the government for these services. Enough is enough and we want action taken against the culprits,” said Erick Monari on behalf of the residents.

The residents accused the officers of sleeping on their job and focusing on illicit brewers at the expense of security.

“We want a total change of guard starting with the OCPD. They have all failed us and this is the right time to eject them. We have a right to be secure but those mandated to do so have totally failed,” he added.

However, OCPD Bernard Kimwele downplayed the accusations and accused residents of allegedly shielding criminals from prosecution.

“The residents know the criminals but do not want to cooperate with the police. Some are even being given shelter by a section of residents therefore its inappropriate to condemn police officers,” he said.
