Subukia CDF has spent Sh10 million on education for the last six months, area MP Nelson Gaichuhie has said.
Another Sh2 million has been used to fund water projects, roads, sports and environment, according to the lawmaker.
The Sh10 million has been used in construction and renovations of classrooms, administration blocks, toilets and water harvesting materials.
Speaking in Subukia while addressing project management committees on Friday, Gaichuhie said priority is given to education and he is committed to ensure that nothing will impede in creating and improving conducive learning environment in schools in the constituency.
“So far, CDF has managed to fund up to 90% electricity connection in schools. We are also providing them with water gutters and tanks. Moreover, we have given students bursaries," Gaichuhie said.
He added,"Parents have a duty to take their children to school. With land resource fast decreasing, education is the only wealth they can give to their sons and daughters,” he said.
The MP appealed to Subukia residents to be united in pushing forward the wheel of development that will benefit all.
At the same time, he called on them to take responsibility in protecting the environment by planting more trees during this rainy season.
“If farmers can heed the call of harvesting water runoffs, one, this will contribute in the maintenance of roads as the runoff is one of the major causes of poor roads and two, the water can be used in farming especially during dry seasons,” he said.
Earlier, Gaichuhie oversaw the laying of the foundation stone of an ECD centre by Governor Kinuthia Mbugua. The classrooms are among those tendered to the youth in the county.
