A modern kindergarten worth Sh9 million has been unveiled in Kisumu town to enhance education for children.
Speaking to the press at the facility, the institution's director Mary Oyoo said the institution admits children aged between six months and six years.
The facility, located at St Stephen’s Cathedral, Milimani, is equipped with music and a computer room, toys, play equipment and other learning materials for children.
Ms Oyoo said the institution is based on quality care for the child in order for them to grow and develop well.
Tuition an the institution costs between Sh35,000 and Sh45,000.
The educationist said babies born prematurely grow up perfectly well and are able to keep up with their peers only if they receive quality care and education.
Ms Oyoo said pre-school education is fundamental in the country’s education system and should not be ignored.
She said a proper educational foundation is key for the development of a child.
“This foundation given to our children at the pre-primary education formed their future,” she said.
Ms Oyoo said the kindergarten curriculum is based on creative and emotional, personal social emotional development, communication and language development.
Others are literacy development, knowledge and understating of the world, physical and mathematical developments.
“Our staff are ECD trained and qualified to ensure children are given proper foundation they deserve,” she said.
She said the day care unit also enhance exclusive breastfeeding of children especially the working class women.
She appealed to the government to train and employ more ECDE teachers so as to boost the learning of the pre-school children.
Ms Oyoo also urged the county governments to prioritise Early Child Development Education to improve standards in the country.
“We need to see adequate involvement of the government at both levels and the community in shaping the future of our children,” she said.
