Shaabab Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mr Daniel Kamau has called for more police surveillance in the Ward over what he claimed was rise in criminal activities.

While addressing journalists on Wednesday, the MCA said local residents are complaining to him over rise in crime.

The MCA said that residents including boda boda operators and Public Service Vehicles (PSV) drivers and conductors have complained to him over a surge in crime.

“I am asking Nakuru County Commissioner Mr Birik to intervene and provide security in this area,” he said.

The MCA, who also addressed matatu touts, said that the government has a responsibility to guarantee security to its citizens.

A section of boda boda riders held demonstrations on Wednesday over the alleged killing of a matatu operator by unknown people.

The touts and boda boda riders lamented over rise in crime which they said is targeting them.

Moses Kibuya, a tout said they cannot operate beyond 11 pm because of the rise in crime levels. “The government needs to guarantee us security for us to continue with our business uninterrupted,” said Mr Kibuya.

Area police boss Bernard Kioko said the matters raised by boda boda riders and residents will be investigated and action taken.

He assured residents that their security will be guaranteed as police mount more security patrols.
