Nakuru’s Shabaab Ward Representative Daniel Kamau has encouraged youths in the Ward to seek government development funds and tenders so that they can improve their livelihoods.

Addressing youths at Shabaab trading centre on Tuesday, the MCA said the youth have been presented with golden opportunities to better their lives.

He said the existence of Uwezo Fund and the 30 per cent tenders set aside for youth and other marginalised groups are opportunities young people should utilise.

Kamau said the effects of unemployment have been felt in the area and that it is time for youths to help fight it.

“Unemployment will be a matter of the past if young people and other marginalised groups take advantage of the government funds,” he said.

The MCA said unemployment has crippled the socio-economic development of the area adding that curbing unemployment will help reduce poverty and crime which he claimed is on the rise.

At the same time, Kamau asked young people to shun drug and alcohol abuse saying that it will render them useless and irrelevant.

MCA Kamau noted that alcohol abuse has shuttered dreams of many youths in the area and pledged to support the ongoing crackdown on illicit brews and illegal alcohol.
