A man accused of defiling a 12 years old minor on Thursday shocked a Nakuru court when he said he is married to the minor.

James Mwangi told Senior Principal Magistrate Joe Omido that the girl he is accused of defiling is actually his wife adding he doesn’t understand why he has been charged.

“The complainant in the case is my wife and she is actually 17 years old. It is not true that I have defiled her,” said Mwangi.

Mwangi is accused of defiling a 12-year-old minor on diverse dates between September 5 and 15 this year at Mathanganta Village in Njoro Sub County.

He also faced an alternative charge of indecent act on a child.

He pleaded not guilty to both counts and was released on a bond of Sh200,000 with a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of Sh60,000.

The case will be heard on October 29.

In the same court, a man accused of stealing Sh145,298 house rent belonging to Mr Fredrick Githitu at Genlose commercial agencies, Barnabas shopping centre in Nakuru admitted to the offence.

George Otieno is said to be an employee at the agency and has been failing to remit the rent to the owner.

He was arrested on September 16 after Githitu alerted police after he failed to get good explanation why the money was missing.

The prosecution told the court that the facts of the case were not ready because the investigating officer did not bring the police file.

The case will be mentioned on September 21 for facts and judgement.
