A cobbler on Monday pleaded guilty before Nakuru court for handling narcotics.

Thomas Maina was accused of being in possession of 260grams of Bhang in Heshima area, Bahati constituency.

Police received information from the area chief that the accused was suspected of peddling bhang by villagers at his shoe-repair workshop.

The police on Friday July 10, in accompany of the area chief went Maina’s place of work and conducted a search.

They recovered bhang hidden in a black plastic bag consequently arresting him and holding him at Bahati police station.

Appearing before chief magistrate, Doreen Mulekyo, Maina pleaded guilty and said that he smokes the bhang himself. He pleaded with the court for lenience saying he was a single parent.a

“I started smoking when my wife died, I repair shoes and I have two kids with no one else to take care of them,” he said

The state counsel Hillary Songoyo said that the accused should be treated as first offender.

The court will give its judgment on Friday.
