Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have been encouraged to embrace new technology as a way of increasing productivity and output.
Speaking to a group of SME investors at Kiambu community hall on Thursday, Kiambu Chief Officer in charge of Trade and Industry Dr Samuel Otieno said that SMEs are the main drivers of the Kiambu economy and Kenya as whole.
Otieno noted that with proper management and right technology, SMEs have a big potential of expanding and growing the county economy to greater heights.
"You have seen that both the government and the private sector have made it easier for SMEs to acquire loans. This is due to the realisation of the role SMEs play in our country's economy,” said Otieno.
He said that SMEs should take advantage of easily accessible loans to venture into new technology.
"It is just this month that we saw the major banks scrambling for SMEs. They are aware that this is where the Kenyan growing economy is headed,” he said.
He said there was Biashara Fund where youths and women in SMEs can easily access loans to improve on technology.
