A Kenya navy officer was on Tuesday morning arraigned in the Eldoret magistrate’s court for allegedly neglecting his children.
The accused Lucas Rotich is said to have abandoned his wife and two children failing to provide for the children’s school fees and upkeep.
Speaking before senior principal magistrate Lilian Nafula, Lucy Chebet who identified herself as the defendant’s wife said that Lucas had ordered her and the children out of their home threatening to kill her if she remained there.
The defendant, she said, had sold the family's property including land, a tractor, a grinding machine and cattle.
Chebet told the court that the accused failed to honour a letter written to the defendant by the chief to fulfill his parental responsibilities.
"I reported the matter to the children’s department which summoned him and be he refused to avail himself," she narrated.
In his defence, Rotich denied knowing the plaintiff citing that he was married to another woman Jackline Talaam with whom they had three children who were all in public primary schools.
The case will be mentioned on August 4.
