A group of 20 women from Chitago Women’s Group has praised their MCA for empowering them by initiating projects among them that have given them the much needed financial freedom.

Speaking on Tuesday after they received an additional Sh200,000 from Borabu MCA Albert Oino that would be used in expanding their maize and beans business in the region, they lauded him of working for all groups indiscriminately.

According to them, the MCA had organized women and youths in the region into various groups and subsequently empowering them, reducing the level of dependency on their husbands.

“Oino is our here. He has kept on educating us on how to form youth groups for our own good. I think there are over 20 women groups and an additional of 15 youth groups in the region that were constituted by him. Through him, the level of dependency to our husbands has drastically reduced,” said Mary Obare.

They said the MCA besides promoting integration among them through groups was also instrumental in boosting youthful activities in the region hence enabling youths to engage themselves in constructive activities.

“He has also empowered our youths and remember empowering youths is equivalent to empowering us. We do not have youths idling around anymore and this is good news to our village,” added Vane Nyaboke.

Speaking separately to journalist, Oino vowed to use his position as Chairperson of Youth and Culture committee in Kisii County Assembly to advocate for the plight of the marginalized women and youths in the society.

“It is my job and I will use my position as Chairman of Youth and sports in assembly to defend the plight of women and youths,” he said.
