Soy MP Edwin Barchilei wants the national government to recruit more teachers in primary and secondary schools so as to boost education standards in the area.
Speaking during the opening of an administration block at Kapkuis Primary School on Thursday, Barchilei said teacher’s shortage in the area has hampered education.
The MP stated that lack of enough teachers has denied students access to quality education adding that the few available teachers are struggling to teach the high number of students in the constituency.
“The national government should immediately recruit more teachers to address the deficit and also boost performance,” he said.
The Soy legislator accused the government of not taking education seriously saying that most primary and secondary schools in the constituency lack adequate learning materials.
The MP said the education sector is in crisis and called on the government to reconsider the strategies it is using to offer education.
At the same time, the legislator asked the government to address teacher’s demands in terms of salaries and welfares.
He said that teachers deserve better pay considering the work they do especially those operating in remote and hardship areas.
The Soy MP also asked the government to improve security in all schools in the country.
