A section of parents in Nyamira County have accused some politicians of taking advantage of the ongoing teachers' strike and using it as a campaign tool.

According to Mrs Jerusa Momanyi, a parent of three affected pupils due to the strike, there is no need to politicise the issue, instead the government should seek a lasting solution to the frequent strikes in the country.

Momanyi termed teachers' demands as "genuine", pointing out that she is in support of the pay hike.

She further called on the government to move with speed and negotiate with teachers' unions to avert the crisis.

“Our children are suffering while at home and the government is not providing an amicable solution to the strike,” she lamented.

She called on the government to negotiate with the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) to end the stalemate.
