Kisii High School principal has condemned the incident where a group of demonstrating teachers descended on teachers in the school for not participating in the ongoing teacher’s strike.
During the unprecedented incident, two male teachers were left nursing injuries at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisii after falling victims to the demonstrating teachers.
Casper Maina condemned the incident on Tuesday and urged the police to investigate and prosecute those who were involved.
“It is illegal for teachers to demonstrate to a public institution that has nothing to do with our plight as teachers. They should have directed their fury to the respective authorities and not to an independent institution. I urge the police to arrest those who injured my teachers,” he said.
He said the injured male teachers are employed by the Board of Management and they had nothing to do with the ongoing strike hence the culprits should be subjected to a court of law and face charges on assault.
“The two teachers are employed by the BOM and they had to be in class because they don’t have an agreement with TSC. That was total infringement of people’s rights and we want to see people facing the law,” he said.
Maina urged teachers to lead as role models by demonstrating peacefully as stipulated in the constitution as a way of protecting the reputation of the profession.
