Acting Students Organization of Maseno University (Somu) President David Mwangi, told hivisasa on phone that the institution suffers inadequate accommodation facilities for students.

Mwangi regretted that most of the students have had to look for alternative accommodation outside the university.

He said that students have been forced to rent houses outside the institution with some going for as high as Sh15,000 per month.

"This issue is really serious as the university management and administration has not put down adequate measures to ensure that this accommodation problem is sorted out. We cannot continue having students suffering yet they pay fees. That is why we are asking the county government to come to the rescue of students by allocating funds towards the building of more and better hostels for students," said Mwangi.

Somu director of health and catering Elvis Wambura says that the next semester, which resumes in September could cause a major crisis saying all the students groups will be on session.

"We will be having all the groups in the next trimester which begins from September. This includes the yet to report first years together with all the other groups,” said Wambura.

He noted that the university could face a serious crisis should the county government fail to intervene.

He was speaking on Friday at the institution.
