Kisii University Vice-Chancellor Prof John Akama has challenged students to blend their education with extra-curricular activities, to ensure they develop their academic careers holistically.
Prof. Akama warned students against pursuing only education at the expense of their potential talents in extra-curricular activities, which they could exploit for their personal empowerment and development of their immediate communities.
Speaking at the University after addressing Havard University's Crocodile Choir that visited the Kisii University, Akama observed that embracing extra-curricular activities not only reliefs students of fatigue and stress, but also enhances their holistic development.
“Naturally, a young person in the early 20s cannot succeed only in reading books, he also needs to engage in extra-curricular activities to refresh his memory, in order to develop holistically,” stated Akama.
He also challenged students to engage in extra-curricular activities to enhance their interaction skills through exchange of ideas and experiences with their peers.
“When students interact with their peers through extra-curricular activities, it unifies and enriches them with new ideas and interaction skills that makes them different from their colleagues who do not engage in extra-curricular activities,” stated Akama.
