A section of parents in Kisii town and its environs have blamed students from surrounding institutions for the rampant cases of prostitution.

According to the parents most of the people arrested for allegations are students from institutions around and not villagers as alleged before.

Joel Ondimu a resident blames poverty to the high cases of prostitution in the area.

“Many of these young people come from poor background and that is why they are engaging in such activities,” he said.

Irene Osongo a resident says the behaviour is common at Kawenjee street where most of the people who find their way there are students.

Kisii central OCPD, Tom Mutisya could neither accept nor deny the complaints but said his team will investigate the cases and arraign culprits in court.

“Am not sure whether they are school girls doing that but we will ensure we arrest whoever is suspected to be doing prostitution in town,” he said.

Some of the major institutions in Kisii town include Kisii University, Gusii Institute of Technology, Mt. Kenya University among others.
