Students from Kanunga, Kiambu County have been urged to choose their careers wisely to ensure their relevance in the job market.

A university don from the area noted that students were habitually going for common courses which were not only overcrowded but also had limited opportunities for progression.

Ezekiel Murethi, a lawyer who teaches at the Mount Kenya University urged students to consult widely with their career masters before enrolling for courses at the university level and other tertiary institutions.

He was speaking during the burial of Joseph Mwangangi, a former councilor in Kanunga village where he observed that careers students choose and direct bearing to the development of the nation.

Murethi who unsuccessfully vied for the Ndumberi ward county rep seat in 2013 at the same time urged the youth who did not make it to university to join other training institutions like polytechnics where they could learn live skills and trades which will enable them eke out a living.

He noted that in the academic arena,gradual career progression was assured in stages and one could ascend from a trade certificate through diploma level to higher levels only that it called for patience and commitment.
