Youths from Subukia Constituency have been urged to embrace peace and shun cults which do not help them and the society as well.

Speaking during the launch of the Subukia Sub-County Youth Group (SSYG) on Monday at a hotel in Nakuru, group founding chairman Thomas Kiiria Nyaga said it was time for the Subukia youth to be actively involved in the day to day runnning of the society. This is because they are, allegedly, the largest population in the community.

“We want to facilitate a process where the youth build their esteem, acquire skills, participate in income-generating activities as well as nurture them in leadership. This will strengthen the governance processes in the constituency,” said Nyaga.

The group's vision is to create a platform where young people are actively involved in social, political and economic affairs of the society.

The group has more than twenty members and it aims at recruiting over a thousand members by December this year.

Zipporah Chege, the group secretary said, “We are going to fight for our rights, lobby and advocate as we train the youth by sensitising them on good governance. This is through establishment of youth empowerment centres for capacity building, entrepreneurial skills and business development.”

The group, christened 'Wing of Hope' shall hold a grassroots meeting on July 5 to educate non-members, mobilising the youths and educate them on civic matters.
