Kisumu County nominated MCA Lydia Odhiambo has challenged the county locals to fully support community based projects to enhance development.
Speaking on Tuesday morning at Tom Mboya Labour College in Nyalenda at community based fish pond project launch meant to upgrade locals’ living standards through enhancing development, MCA Odhiambo challenged the locals to support projects as they were meant to improve their standard of living.
The MCA noted that such projects needed to be fully supported as they needed community support to grow and to improve the locals’ living standards through economic empowerment.
According to the MCA Odhiambo, lack of community consent and support to the initiated projects highly determine their success and failure. She further challenged leaders to see proper lobbying and capacity building to the locals is properly executed to accept projects and help their growth.
"We need to have a sense of self belonging by participating fully in initiated community based projects. The projects are initiated to improve locals living standards by reducing poverty rate locals face and through the projects, locals economic empowerment would have been enhanced fully," said MCA Odhiambo.
Her counterpart Caroline Ogot also asked the locals to embrace projects and according to her, projects sustainability depended on the locals' input towards the initiated projects.
MCA Ogot further challenged donor agents to support locals in coming up with projects that are of long-term and are community based to bridge the poverty and dependency gap.
