Nyagachi police officers have arrested two people who are alleged to be notorious illicit brewers in Bosamaro village.
This comes several months after the suspects, John Mokono and Willis Ombiro, escaped police arrest despite several attempts to apprehend them in their alleged brewing den in Motagara village.
The Tuesday morning crackdown that was led by Sgt Timothy Keter was successful as the two suspects were arrested when they were attempting to escape arrest again, police said.
“We are happy that the two suspects have been arrested. They have for several months escaped the arrest and I think this is the wonderful moments for us. Area residents have been complaining of rampant brewing and for today, that will be a forgotten case,” he said.
During the crackdown, over 300 litres of illicit brew were impounded as the area chief cautioned area residents of engaging in the outlawed business.
“Changa’a business is outlawed and we all know that. Let us be responsible citizens by abiding by the law. You all know the ultimate price of being found culpable. We will not spare anyone regardless of your influence to the society,” said Mr Dan Omariba.
The two prime suspects will be arraigned in Nyamira court to face charges of resisting arrest besides being in possession of illicit brew that the government had launched a war against.
