A man accused of stealing a mobile phone worth Sh80,000 was on Monday arraigned before a Kisumu court to answer the charges.
Wayne Omondi, 23, however, denied the charges before Kisumu Chief Magistrate Lucy Gitari for the offence he allegedly committed in June 25, 2015.
The accused also faced a second count of alleged property destruction, a charge he also denied. The court heard that Omondi who works at a car wash in Kisumu, allegedly stole the phone from a potential client’s car.
The prosecution alleged that the complainant had arrived at the Kondele based car wash, when he parked his vehicle and excused himself to talk to a friend before authorising any washing.
The complainant Paul Awiti returned after 20 minutes only to find the Window to the driver’s door smashed and his phone missing. He asked around for it but the car washers were adamant to talk to him.
The complainant then decided to report the matter at the Kondele Police Station. Police launched investigations into the matter where they tracked the phone to Migosi Estate.
The holder of the phone, however, led them to accused who allegedly sold him the phone. Omondi was released on a cash bail of Sh10,000 with surety of a similar amount pending the hearing in July 27, 2015.
