The national government and the county governments have been asked to come up with better ways of ensuring that old people live well in their sunset years.
Fellowship of African Independent Baptist (FAIB) and an American NGO Rock Fellowship Foundation (RFF) say that it is discouraging to see the miserable lives the old people live especially in the slums.
“Our programmes are going to reach out to those people in prisons and the people living in slums. We will help them lead good lives as we also share the gospel with them,” RFF’s John Cherry said.
Speaking at Faith Baptist Church, Eldoret, the two said that many old people are living with many problems and asked the two governments to come to their rescue.
“It seems like in this country, many elderly people have been set aside and nobody cares for them. It is very important for the government to have a foundation for these people so that they can get a place where they feel accepted,” said Nyabero.
He added that there is also a need to create jobs for other people living in the slums as many are living in abject poverty.
“Let us have plans for the slum people. We can initiate groups and show them what to do. Many of them would tell you that they don’t want fish, they want to know how to fish,” he added.
