Kikuyu public transport Sacco managements have been urged to take their matatus for inspection to ensure they are roadworthy.
Speaking in her office on Wednesday, Kikuyu Traffic Base Commander Inspector Elizabeth Wakuloba said the move will prevent road accidents and crews being in bad books with the law.
She said there are increased cases of drivers being arrested for not having particular documents or even causing accidents.
She said most matatu operators in the region have tampered with their speed governors and hence speed thus landing them into serious trouble.
Inspector Wakuloba said Sacco managements can effectively ensure such menaces come to an end.
Wakuloba also mentioned that some matatu crews do not wear uniforms and asked the saccos managements to educate their members on the need to adhere to traffic rules.
"I want to call on Sacco managements within Kikuyu Sub-County to ensure they inspect their vehicles regularly to avoid accidents and also being on the wrong side of the law," said Wakuloba.
She said some saccos risk losing their operating licences if their matatus are found to be notorious in flouting traffic rules.
