The National Taxpayers Association (NTA) has kicked off a project in three counties in the country to monitor United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID) funded projects.

The Association's National Coordinator Martin Napisa said the projects funded by DFID are spread in Kisumu, Nairobi and Turkana counties.

Mr Napisa said NTA will follow on how the funds are being used and engage the communities to gauge the impacts of the projects.

He said DFID is interested in knowing how their money is used for development aid and how it impacts the life of others.

“This is a five months project, trying to look at the project limitations and how the communities participate on how they are welcoming the projects are resolving proems arising from the project,” he said.

Speaking in Kisumu on Wednesday during a meeting with community members where the projects are located, Napisa said NTA will work closely with the implementing partners on the ground.

“We are going to work very closely with the local implementing partners, that are Pamoja Trust and Water Services for Urban Poor, working in Nairobi ad Turkana,” he said.

He said the pilot project will enable DFID to learn challenges on the implementation of the projects so as to improve on the implementation of similar projects in other parts.

Nyanza NTA Coordinator Deurence Onyango said they will train monitors who will use open data to monitor the progress and report to NTA and DFID directly.

“We are going to provide the monitor with tablets where they can go and visits the projects, feed the information and be relayed directly to our headquarter in Nairobi and to our partner offices in London for analysis,” she said.
