Small scale tea farmers in Nyamira County have been urged to increase their production to ensure that they get to satisfy the growing market and demand of tea from the area.

Addressing tea farmers in Makairo early Tuesday, Kebirigo Tea Factory Sales manager Robert Onsomu said they have received many requests to supply more tea products to other new foreign markets, a move that shows high demand and hope in the market for the product.

Onsomu added that their strategy to look for new markets in the region have yielded fruits, and its upon the farmers to produce enough to reach their new markets' demand.

“We are calling on the smallholder farmers to significantly increase their production because we have a available new markets and who will buy their tea at a good price hence improve their livelihoods,” said Onsomu.

He added that for a while now farmers have been complaining about lack of markets for their products, but they are now assured of getting ready markets.

“Some of the countries that really need our products include Australia and Netherlands, just to name a few and we believe we will get to cater for their needs,” concluded Onsomu.
