Mavoko Assistant County Commissioner, David Tegutwa, has cautioned Machakos County government officers against colluding with liquor traders to flout laws in the region.
Speaking from his office in Athi River Town on Thursday, Tegutwa said it had come to his attention that some of the officers were helping bars, pubs and other liquor traders break laws which regulate the industry.
"I caution employees of our sister county government of Machakos against colluding with liquor traders who have refused to operate within the laws that regulate the industry," said Tegutwa.
Tegutwa disclosed that some of the officers were reportedly protecting such traders from being arrested and charged for not adhering to the law.
He said it was embarrassing that some of the same officers drink until they become unconscious in the same joints thereby making it an embarrassment for enforcing law and order by security agents.
"I got shocked one evening when I visited a certain joint within Mavoko only to find a senior officer at the Machakos County government unconsciously drank, this is unacceptable," said Tegutwa.
Tegutwa said it is suspected that such officers deter security agents from effecting arrests to the joints operators some of who are allegedly sneaking back second-hand generation, operating outside stipulated times by the "Mututho" law among other offenses.
He said his office is organizing a crackdown of all bars, pubs and restaurants dealing in liquor, an operation he disclosed would not spare anybody in spite of his position or status in the society.
