A 10-year-old boy is fighting for his life at Kenyatta National Hospital after being knocked by a train at Kianda in Kibera on Friday.
The boy identified as Clifford Odunga was involved in the accident at around 1 pm while standing next to the railway line.
According to eye witnesses, he was allegedly playing close to the railway line when the Nairobi-bound cargo train was passing.
"This boy, together with his colleagues were playing next to the railway line and when the train hooted, he remained behind while his friends fled. That is when we heard him scream in pain. The train had knocked and thrown him a distance away from the rail," narrated a witness.
He was immediately rushed to Ushirika Medical Centre, a nearby health centre where he was given emergency attention by the doctors before being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital.
"The boy was brought here by good Samaritans immediately after the accident at around 1:30 pm. It was active bleeding and we had to give him first aid to arrest the bleeding," said Doctor David Odhiambo of Ushirika Medical Centre.
"His right leg has been critically damaged and chances of mutilation of the leg are very high since even the phalanges are not there. The forehead had abrasion and we had to do our best to save his life. We have referred him to Kenyatta National Hospital," added Dr Odhiambo.
The Community members made quick fundraising and hired a taxi that ferried him to Kenyatta National Hospital accompanied by the mother who was overcome by emotions.
