A section of tenants from Jogoo, Daraja Mbili, Egesa and Mwembe want all landlords in the town to fence their properties to improve safety.

The tenants have challenged the Kenya Tenants Association in Kisii County to order for the fencing decrying increased theft of their properties. They noted that their landlords have not shown any efforts to fencing their properties to address the issue.

According to a tenant, increased robberies have caused many residents seek help from their association because many landlords have refused to fence their properties.

Speaking on Friday at Kisii Town, Jared Nyamwaka who spoke on behalf of the tenants noted that if the association needs to make them safe, it should order Kisii landlords to fence their houses.

“We request the association to save us because we have lost much to thieves. Let the landlords’ fence their rental houses using wire mesh and perimeter wall. We have suffered a lot,” noted Teresa Obiri, another tenant.

“Last week I lost my television and some money. We need safety in our compounds,” said Pastor Joseck Osoro.

The residents also claim there is increased insecurity at night where unknown people terrorise them. They have appealed to the county and national government to work together and order police officers to patrol Kisii Town at night.
