Persons living with disabilities in Nyamira County are set to benefit from Sh6 million European funded project through Plan International.
The donor project will last three years.
The project that has already kicked off seeks to strengthen protection of the girl child and those living with disabilities against all forms of violence in the community.
According to Plan International Projects Officer J. Ndambuki, the disabled and young girls are always at risk of sexual abuse hence the need to protect them.
Mr Ndambuki was speaking on Thursday in Nyamira Social Services hall during an area advisory council meeting.
He said the project was targeted to reach 2, 500 adults including community volunteers, local administrators and parents who will be equipped with knowledge and skills on child protection.
“We have already identified seven primary schools in the three targeted areas which we will work with and ensure that child protection at school, family and community level is upheld," he said.
He said the program was brought to the county after numerous reports that the county still discriminates the disabled and the girl child’s education has not been taken seriously.
