After it was reported that the spread of the HIV/AIDS virus was on the decline in the county of Nyamira, it has now been revealed that the rate at which the virus is spreading is still high.
According to Dr Jack Magara of Nyamira County, the number of people infected with the HIV virus in the county currently stands at 27,599 which he said only represents the number of people that have been tested adding that many people are still believed to have the virus.
Dr Magara said that this was according to the statistics given by the National Aids and STIs Control Programme (NASCOP) adding that in last year only, about 2, 400 people contracted the virus.
He said that many people still need help in the county as the infection rate is on the rise and also said that they would like to work with different organizations which are either community based or government owned to ensure they stop the spread of the deadly virus.
Dr Magara added that they have put up various other measures to ensure that they reduce the spread of the HIV/AIDS virus noting that they have sent medical officers across the county to counsel the residents and teaching them on the preventive measures they can take.
