A suspected robber was on Tuesday killed by a mob at Kivunda village in Matuu ward of Yatta Sub-County, after he allegedly tried to steal from a shop.

According to the area Chief Douglas Nzioki, the suspect had tried executing his mission by threatening the residents using a fake pistol.

Nzioki told the media that the suspect’s attempt to steal was cut short by members of the public who raised alarm and pursued him as he ran towards Kimicho River.

The suspect was however cornered by a mob that attacked and stoned him to death.

It is alleged that he is a member of a notorious gang that has been robbing business operators especially at Matuu market along the Garissa road.

“This person is known. He has been robbing people especially at Matuu area. Today it was his 40th day. He tried to rob in Kivunda area but was overcome by the residents who chased him to this place where he was killed,” said Nzioki.

Police officers arrived at the scene a few minutes after he had been killed and recovered the fake pistol.

Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Yatta OCPD Edward Kipsang said mob justice is not the best way of getting justice by the public and they should be handing over the criminals to the police.

The body was taken to Matuu level four funeral home.
