Thika West Sub-County Deputy Traffic Base Commander John Lisoi has asked bodaboda operators in Thika to respect and follow the traffic rules promptly to curb increasing cases of accidents.
Speaking on Thursday in Thika Town, the commander said the only permanent solution to reducing accidents which have claimed over 30 people in a span of two weeks, is to maintain intelligence in the observance of the traffic rules.
“This area has been hit by traffic congestion since December last year and the county and national government leaders have been doing their best to reduce the congestion,” said Lisoi.
He said that the expansion that was to be conducted on Thika exits and entrances could have helped much but the process was slowed by the crisis that emerged between the county government and prison warders.
The bodaboda operators graduated last week after completing a training programme aimed at sensitising them on road safety.
The operators lauded the programme that was facilitated by Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a, as most of them had been operating without licenses.
“We now know the rules and we have been issued with licenses as well. If we follow all the stipulated rules on the road while riding, I am sure we will be safe,” said Ezekiel Kiambi, the bodaboda operators’ chairman.
