Thika night time hawkers may start having it rough if they do not stop littering the town, Kiambu County officer in charge of public service and administration Dominic Gicheru has warned.
Speaking to journalists in his Thika town office on Wednesday, Gicheru said some hawkers are littering the town at night when selling their wares.
The hawkers deal with items such clothes, shoes, padlocks, groceries, vegetables to name just but a few.
"We have noted that the night time hawkers are littering the town and this is not going to be tolerated at all," said Gicheru.
He alleged that the hawkers who start streaming into the streets from 7pm find the town clean but leave it dirty.
"The street cleaners are complaining that they are getting a lot of litter in the morning as result of the hawkers' night time activities. We ask them shape up or ship out," he said.
He, however, noted that some littering could be coming from some irresponsible members of the public.
"Some litter has been found beyond where hawkers operate t and we suspect it is done by some members of the public. We urge them to make use of the dustbins provided at designated places in the town," Gicheru said.
