Thika OCPD Erastus Muthamia has directed all the sub-county police inspectors to lead their junior officers and launch raids on illicit brews this weekend.
Claiming that the brews are back on market in Thika, Muthamia cited the increasing number of drunkards along Thika streets both during the day and at night. He has condemned the illicit liquor return saying that it might be the reason the crime incidences are increasing.
“All the inspectors should ensure that no illegal business especially sale of the killer brew is going on in their areas of jurisdiction. I will need a report of what they have done on Monday and the number of people and litres they have nabbed,” he said.
He noted that in the recent operations done by both the administration police and regular police, in a span of two weeks they have managed to nab 4,770 litres of illicit brew and 16 brewers arrested in Thika West Sub-County only.
Muthamia added that among them, nine have been charged at Thika Courts while the remaining seven are still under police custody to aid with further investigations.
He has urged the residents to cooperate with the security officers and unveil the dens that confiscate the brewers. He issued a stern warning to those engaging in the illegal business and instead asked them to involve themselves in other profitable businesses.
He spoke on Saturday morning from his office in Thika town where he hosted a number of police inspectors from Thika Town.
