Police in Thika are investigating how a 26-year-old man from Kiandutu slums was killed on Wednesday night.
The man died while receiving treatment at Thika Level Five Hospital after he was brutally attacked and seriously injured by a gang of unknown assailants on Wednesday night.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, Thika west OCPD Mr Erastus Muthamia said the victim, identified as Martin Karangi who hails from Kiandutu slums, was found writhing in pain inside his house at around 11.30pm on Wednesday.
Area chief Daniel Waiguru said crime incidences are back on the rise as Kiandutu has been calm since the NYS initiative was introduced by the area MP.
Muthamia at the same time issued a stern warning to a section of the public who he blamed for having developed a habit of taking the law into their hands whenever such incidents occurred in the area.
He urged residents to always forward suspected criminals to police officers for legal action rather than lynching suspects as some end up being innocent.
The officer was referring to an incident that occurred some weeks ago in which a man was seriously injured by members of public who had accused him of theft at Kiang’ombe trading centre. The man was later cleared of any criminal activities.
Police in Thika have now intensified investigations and search for the suspects. The deceased’s body was taken to General Kago morgue in Thika town.
