Kiambu County government has handed over a Land Rover to the Thika administration police officers in a move to fight and curb brewing and consumption of illicit brews in the area.

Speaking in Thika Town on Friday, area district administration police commander, Samuel Ombonya said that they have received the Land Rover which will help them in enhancing patrols.

He said that they have already launched a security swoop to get rid of the illicit brew dens in the area.

The police boss said they raided Majengo, Kiandutu and Gachagi areas and apprehended a number of brewers and consumers.

“We have already arraigned over 17 people in court who were arrested in the brewing dens and we are still enhancing the raids as we have received a land rover from the county government,” said Ombonya.

He noted that they have informers on the ground who provide them with information concerning the existence of the dens. 

Ombonya lauded the residents in the area for their supported in the fight against the illegal brews.

He added that bar owners operating against the stipulated rules and regulations in the Kiambu County Alcoholic Act will be apprehended and charged in court.

He called on bar owners, retailers and wholesalers to ensure they sell approved alcoholic drinks.
