Kiambu County Governor Willam Kabogo has cautioned the public against taking the law in their own hands when dealing with robbery suspects saying it is illegal.
Addressing residents in Thika Town on Tuesday Kabogo noted that cases of mob justice had gone up in the town.
"Is this the kind of Kenya we want where people want to follow the jungle law? When you find a suspect of any crime you are not supposed to burn them or kill them. The law allows citizen arrest. Take them to the police station and let the law take its course,” said Kabogo.
The governor urged parents to speak to their youthful children and discourage them against engaging in acts of mob justice.
He said that innocent people were being meted out with violence and even death on mere suspicion of committing crime.
"No one is allowed to take the law in their own hands. You become a worse criminal than the suspect themselves when you opt for mob justice,” said Kabogo.
The governor said his government will not tolerate anyone breaking the law through acts of mob justice.
