Second-hand books traders in Thika Town have been cautioned against selling stolen textbooks.

Speaking in his Thika town office to journalists on Monday, Thika West OCPD Francis Muthamia noted that many books that get lost in schools find their way into the shelves of second-hand books sellers.

"We advise the booksellers not to buy any stolen textbooks because they will have only themselves to blame", warned Muthamia.

He said that many schools had reported to them earlier that they had found some of their stamped textbooks being retailed at the second-hand book stores.

"This is totally unacceptable because these books are either stolen and sold by graduating Form Four candidates to them or other students who steal from their fellows," Muthamia added.

The OCPD, however, said that it was not illegal to retail second-hand books only that books should be bought from genuine sellers and not students or other people just interested in making quick money.
