Thika West deputy county commissioner Jeremiah Gicheru has warned that security officers in the Juja and Thika west sub-counties who are sleeping on their jobs risk being sacked.

He said the officers should up their game to ensure that the area residents are safe from attacks.

Speaking to the public in Thika on Monday, Gicheru said there has been a rise in insecurity in the sub-counties in the recent past, especially in Juja town, Majengo and Makongeni.

The commissioner condemned the incident where a businessman was robbed on Monday at a gunpoint on daylight with the police patrolling the area yet they could not help.

“We are telling our police officers who are not ready to protect the public from being attacked by criminals to pack their things and go," the DCC said.

"We are already working on modalities to ensure that those who were on duty at the areas affected will be punished as per the regulations set by the law.”

Gicheru, who is also the chairman of the two sub-counties’ security committee, added that they are not going to allow the public to be killed in cold blood by a gang of criminals while police relax in their comfort zones.

He said the security intelligence and security committee meetings with the public over the weekend were aimed at bringing the security situation to normal.
