About 13 people among them women and children, from Kiandutu slums are nursing injuries in Thika Level Five Hospital after they were injured protesting against unfair dismissal from the NYS program.
Most of the victims were injured while running for their safety when police arrived to calm the situation.
The injured were evacuated to hospital by the Thika Red Cross team after they were informed of the situation by concerned residents of Kiandutu.
The chaos started on Tuesday morning when women stormed the area with twigs condemning their dismissal from their jobs and accusing their supervisors of being corrupt and embezzling their savings.
The women demanded for the money they have been saving since they were offered an opportunity to work in the area. They also wanted more cash for the days they have worked since April to early last week when their operations were suspended without pay.
Following the incident, four people have been arrested for allegedly withholding the women's money and therefore causing such chaos.
Thika OCPD Mr Erastus Muthamia said: "We have been handed four suspects said to have been holding the money by the supervisors and we are interrogating them. If they gave the women their money we could have avoided such chaos."
By the time of going to press, the situation was yet to go back to normal. The area CDF Chairman Mr Ephraim Njihia, who was representing the area MP, was forced to run for his safety when the women threatened to attack him.
The women allege that some officials from the CDF office are abetting their dismissal.
