Three youth from Ndalani area in Yatta have been arrested following the Monday's chaos where irate residents stormed a land parcel alleged to have been grabbed and destroyed the fence.

The three, according to the police, mobilised the residents to engage in the act after which the developer acquired a court order to restrain anyone from gaining access to the land as well as the arrest of the three.

Area police boss Edward Kipsang has told the press that he was served with a warrant to arrest them and proceeded immediately as the developer was identified as the legal owner of the land by the court.

Kipsang said that they were forced to disperse the residents who held protests along the streets of Yatta after demolishing the fence.

Following the incident, Ndalani MCA Stephen Muthuka has vowed to advocated for the rights of the people he represents saying they were justified to demolish the fence.

"The courts and the land offices have become corrupt and are being used to exploit the poor by supporting their land grabbing rendering people homeless," he said.

Speaking in a phone interview, the county legislator said that the three youth will be out by noon on Tuesday as he will intervene and ensure that they are released.

"Government departments are denying the poor their justice and giving it to the rich. We will not watch as they oppress the elderly who own that land legally. That man is a land grabber and he cannot succeed in this area," the MCA said.
