Three men were on Tuesday morning charged at a Nakuru court with being in possession of suspected stolen vehicles.

Stephen Onyango, James Chege Wairimu and Martin Macharia were accused that on June 13, 2014 at Kapkures estate in Nakuru, they were found in possession of three vehicles suspected to have been stolen.

The trio denied the charge before chief magistrate Samuel Mungai and were remanded at the Nakuru Central police station. The detention is to allow the police complete investigations.

The prosecutor, David Wambua, had requested that the investigating officers be given adequate time to collect and compile evidence.

The three were arrested last weekend in connection to a car theft syndicate with operations in Nairobi, Nakuru and Eldoret.

The suspects were allegedly nabbed by plain-clothes officers as they tried to dismantle vehicles they had purportedly stolen.

Nakuru divisional police boss Bernard Kioko said the suspects have been stealing cars in several towns and selling them across borders. He revealed the suspects had escaped police dragnets for months and that the syndicate gang is notorious and dangerous.

The case will be heard on July 30 when the accused will make their bond application.
