Three people died on Tuesday night while three others are admitted at Ruiru Level Four Hospital after a saloon car they were travelling in was involved in an accident at Juja Weighbridge.
According to Juja OCS Mr Luke Odiwuor, the 8:30pm accident involved the saloon car and a truck which was heading to Ruiru from Ndarugo and carrying building stones.
He said that the lorry was trying to overtake along the Thika road which was heavily congested at the moment and it lost control and overturned hitting the saloon car from behind and killing the three on the spot.
The officer said that the police took over an hour to retrieve the car from the road and ease the congestion with the help of the passengers in other vehicles. The casualties were taken to Ruiru hospital.
He said that the lorry driver escaped shortly after causing the accident leaving his conductor behind. The conductor was locked in at Juja Police Station as police pursue the driver.
Odiwuor said that accidents at the weighbridge are caused by drivers who ignore the traffic rules. The saloon car was carrying six passengers.
He called on all motorists to be cautious along the road saying that the trucks transporting stones from Ndarugo have been recently causing accidents in the area at a worrying rate.
The bodies were removed to Kenyatta University Funeral home.
